What is this thing they call the Tik Tok?

Tik Tok is something here at Webvio that really catches our eyes. If you could go back to 2010 and take advantage of the early Instagram trend you surely would! I believe that’s what we’re looking at with Tik Tok right now. Literally, anyone can post a video and go viral organically. However, it’s only a matter of time before Tik Tok becomes the same as Instagram and Facebook where you have to pay to be seen and heard.

If you’re not familiar, Tik Tok is a video-sharing platform in a vertical format that users have the ability to create any type of video content they want. They can use music, talk about anything, create edits, dances, skits, it’s really whatever you make it, which is cool! Early Tik Tok was filled with teens dancing and lip singing. It’s evolved past that quickly and if you think you are too “old” or “cool” for Tik Tok I challenge you to download the app and give it a try.

The app’s algorithm works in a way to keep users engaged by keeping them on a “side” of Tik Tok as it’s referred to. All this means is whatever content you engage with ( like, comment, share) Tik Tok will keep showing you more of that type of content. This is a key factor to why your business can thrive on Tik Tok. For example, if you owned an online coaching business in the fitness niche you can use relevant hashtags and get in front of your audience organically and share valuable content to them. Here is a great website to find trending hashtags https://tiktokhashtags.com/

As you get familiar with the type of content that performs best and the popular sounds you will begin to understand the content you need to create. It’s best practice to use trending sounds for your videos.

Let’s look behind the scenes

Why is this thing so popular? First, let’s look at who is using this platform. There are currently  732 million monthly active users & 100 million of those are in the United States. If you’re thinking “well Tik Tok is just for kids” the current 2021 demographics are as follows:

60% are female, 40% are male. 60% are between the ages of 16-24. 26% are between the ages 25-44

If your business is targeting older generations then I believe you can come in and beat the rush and have an untapped niche. For a majority of eCommerce brands, Tik Tok is a great place to be. If you’re B2B you can get ahead of the trend and start posting Tik Toks and gaining your followers that could be potential leads.

The reason this platform is growing so fast is because of how it plays into human psychology. Firstly, there are familiar sounds that keep getting stuck in our heads and make us return, there are quick hits of dopamine when you finish a video and either laugh, gain new information, see something satisfying, or cool. And it’s never-ending… try scrolling through Tik Tok for an hour and the algorithm will trigger and send you a Tik Tok branded video telling you to take a break and get a snack.

It’s the perfect mood booster, changer, distractor, and all-around addiction stimulating its users like no other social media platform has before.

Where do we go from here?

Our favorite part about Tik Tok is that it can’t be faked. It’s authentic. Social media users are fed up with the perfect pictures and appearances on Instagram. It’s hard to fake a video. Sure there are editing apps and filters but a lot of the content on Tik Tok is made with an iPhone and an idea.

Given this background information on Tik Tok it’s time for you to get to work, develop a content strategy, and post! The more the better! Llet Tik Tok tell you what works not your ego.

A great individual to follow on Tik Tok for trends, tips, and growing on the platform is @itxmejules she’s fantastic and creating some very valuable content.

Your first video can very realistically get 500-1000 views. If you posted on Instagram today you’d be lucky to get 3!

The Tik Tok Business Manager

We’ve dabbled with their business manager and want to become pros at it before we start consulting with clients and offering it as a service here at Webvio.

Our initial thoughts:

It’s very similar to the Facebook Business Manager. If you’re familiar with Facebook ads there shouldn’t be too big of a learning curve for you. They do offer a pixel and connecting it to Shopify was incredibly easy.

Just recently they launched leads as a campaign objective and we’re looking to test that new feature.

Final Takeaway

The Tik Tok era is just beginning and we’re planning on capitalizing on it. Are you?
